  16.      With the desks overview, _o_v, users can create, change, copy, rename and
  17.      delete desks.  Users can also drag windows from one desk to another or
  18.      place windows on the global desk.

  20.      Desks are available only when running a version of _4_D_w_m that includes
  21.      support for desks.

  23.      Users can launch the program from the toolchest (Desktop > Extra Desks)
  24.      or from a Unix shell command line.  _o_v has the ``runonce'' feature,
  25.      meaning only one instance of the application will run at one time.
  26.      Attempting to launch the application a second time will have the effect
  27.      of deiconifying the application window and popping it to the top on the
  28.      current desk.

  30.      The user is presented with desk snapshots or miniature desk
  31.      representations, each with miniature windows representing the actual
  32.      windows on the current desk.  The user's current desk is indicated by a
  33.      lit LED.  The global desk shows windows that appear on all desks.  For
  34.      detailed instructions, see the Help menu in the _o_v application.

  36.      With no arguments, _o_v comes up with its default settings.  Optional
  37.      arguments are as follows:

  40.              Specifies the size at which the desk snapshots are to be
  41.              displayed.  The default is 0.10, for 10% of actual size.

  74.      When desks are viewed as snapshots rather than as buttons, the
  75.      backgrounds of the miniature desks reflect the backgrounds of the actual
  76.      desks.  Miniaturized windows in each desk icon appear in the background
  77.      colors of the windows they represent, taken from the background resource
  78.      (if readily available).

  92.      In past releases, _o_v's ``runonce'' feature did not work correctly.  This
  93.      has been fixed in IRIX 6.5, such that users must use the ----nnnneeeewwww option to
  94.      run multiple copies of _o_v.

  96.      Transient windows (child windows of main application windows) do not
  97.      appear in the desks overview.  For example, the Backgrounds: Color
  98.      Browser window available from the background customization panel is a
  99.      transient window.

  101.      The SGI window manager _4_D_w_m controls a window's placement and location on
  102.      a given desk.  It also controls the number of desks that get created at
  103.      startup.  The file that contains this information is $_H_O_M_E/._d_e_s_k_t_o_p-

  115.      Typing <Ctrl>-N very fast can cause desks to be created without a default
  116.      name and with the incorrect size.  Renaming the desk will correct the
  117.      default name problem and choosing a new desk scale value will correct the
  118.      sizing problem.

  120.      The windows list does not properly update after the deleting of a desk.
  121.      Sometimes it may be necessary to close the windows list, deiconify some
  122.      window on the desk then bring up the windows list again.
